VitalStim® – Electrotherapy and sEMG. Biofeedback System

VitalStim Therapy is designed to help swallowing through the use of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES). Electrical stimulation is used to aid muscle strengthening to rehabilitate the swallow.

A VitalStim Therapy program is typically administered 3 to 5 days per week for one hour. Most patients can expect their VitalStim Therapy program to last one month.

Typical patient categories include, but are not limited to: Stroke, Various other neuromuscular disease processes (e.g., Parkinson’s, ALS, etc.), Head and neck cancer (post radiation) and/or surgery, De-conditioning as a result of age or co-morbidity.

Dislocation of the nerve stump is prevented by suturing the nerve end into the cap. A hole at the sealed end of the tube allows easy fixation of the nerve stump with a suture to the surrounding tissue.
